Privacy Policy

Overview

Pattern Generator works without an account and keeps that visitor data in the browser. If you choose to create an account, the service also stores the account information and creative data described below so your workspace can be restored across sessions.

Information We Collect

Local Storage (Your Device)

  • Saved Patterns: Your pattern creations are stored locally in your browser's localStorage. When you are signed in, saved patterns and folders are also synchronized to your account.
  • User Preferences: Dark mode is the default. If you choose light mode, that preference is stored in the essentialpattern-theme cookie and synchronized to localStorage. Signed-in preferences are also synchronized to your account.
  • Editor State: Your current pattern editing state is preserved locally for convenience and synchronized when you are signed in.

Account Data (Optional)

Creating an account stores your name, email address, a securely hashed password credential, authentication sessions, saved creations and folders, editor and Builder state, theme, and interface preferences in the service's PostgreSQL database. Authentication sessions may include an IP address and browser user agent for security and session management. We do not store your password in plain text.

URL Sharing (Optional)

If you choose to share a pattern, its configuration (generator, options, colors) is encoded directly into the share URL. No account is required, and nothing is uploaded to a server. Anyone you send the link to can open the same pattern in their own browser.

Public Publishing (Optional)

Signed-in users can separately choose to publish a saved creation to the public community directory. The public pseudonym, creation name, allowed text layers, generator snapshot, publication date, and rendered preview are then stored and publicly accessible. Login email and account identifiers are not displayed. Before publication, public text and the rendered preview are processed by automated safety checks; if those checks are unavailable or reject the content, the creation remains private. You can withdraw a publication later.

Information We Do NOT Collect

  • Payment information
  • Precise location data
  • Advertising identifiers
  • Tracking or advertising cookies
  • We do not sell account or creative data

Cookies

We use essential cookies for the selected theme and, when you sign in, for authentication and session security. The optional pattern-theme cookie contains only the value light, lasts for up to 400 days, and is removed when you return to the default dark mode. Authentication cookies keep you signed in and are not used for advertising. We do not use tracking or third-party analytics cookies.

Data Security

Local data is protected by your browser's security measures. Account passwords are stored as one-way hashes rather than plain text, and account records are separated by user identifier. No internet service can guarantee absolute security, so you should use a unique password and keep access to your device secure. Anyone you send a share link to can view the pattern encoded in that link, and anything you explicitly publish to the community gallery is public until you withdraw it.

Your Rights

  • Access: Your local creations are available in the browser and signed-in creations are visible from your account.
  • Correction: You can update your account name and creative data from the application.
  • Deletion: You can clear local site data at any time. Contact us to request deletion of your account and its synchronized data.
  • Export: You can export your pattern library as JSON and individual patterns as SVG or image files.

Third-Party Services

We may use third-party services for hosting and infrastructure. These providers are selected for their commitment to data privacy and security.
